Vanessa Ross


Vanessa is a chartered landscape architect and Fellow of the Landscape Institute. With over 25 years of experience in private practice she has a detailed and applied knowledge of landscape planning, assessment (LVIA/TVIA/EIA), landscape and public realm design and project management.

Vanessa grew up in Saffron Walden where her family still live and started her professional career working for a landscape architectural consultancy in Essex. Whilst her experience includes work across the UK, she has regularly worked on projects across many parts of Essex.

In 2014 Vanessa founded Arc Landscape Design and Planning Ltd. and has worked on projects in a range of development sectors including large and small scale masterplanning and residential schemes, health care, commercial and leisure projects. Vanessa is also experienced in landscape assessment and work relating to Green Belt/Grey Belt and sites within or adjacent to designated landscapes and sensitive heritage settings. She is also an experienced expert witness on landscape related matters and an approved Building with Nature Assessor.

In 2017 Vanessa was selected to join Design South East’s design review panel and building on her experience in design review she was appointed to the Design Review Panel for the Greater Cambridge Combined Planning Services in 2021.

Vanessa also lectures in professional practice at Kingston University.  She is a supervisor and examiner for the Landscape Institute ‘Pathway to Chartership’ programme and volunteers for several Landscape Institute committees/working groups. In 2021 Vanessa was appointed as a board director at Kingston First, (Kingston's BID) becoming co-chair in 2023 promoting public realm improvements in the town centre.
