Jas Bhalla

Jas is a qualified Architect, Urban Designer, and Town Planner. Over the last decade he led projects across a range of scales, from strategic masterplans to intimate residential developments. Given his dual training, Jas specialises in negotiating the complexities of the planning system to deliver well crafted, thoughtful, and enduring architecture and urbanism. Jas Bhalla Architects are currently leading a large masterplan in Somerset, the promotion of a new town in Bedfordshire and several small scale residential developments across London and the South East.

Prior to establishing his own practice in 2017, Jas held positions at a number of renowned architecture and design firms, including Kohn Pederson Fox, Adjaye Associates, and Allies and Morrison Urban Practitioners. During his time at AMUP he was involved with the promotion of development at West Tey when proposals were in their nascent stages. He managed a series of challenging community engagement workshops in Briantree, Coggleshaw and Colchester, discussing local concerns such as congestion on the A120 and the retention of the area’s rural character. He also contributed to the Grays Town Centre Framework on behalf of Thurrock Council, promoting the Town’s physical and social regeneration. More recently, he has been leading part of the design of a New Garden Town at Gilston, north of Harlow which abuts the Hertfordshire - Essex border.

Uniquely, Jas studied at the Bartlett School of Planning before completing his architectural education at Yale University as the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. Jas is a regular writer and speaker, and has authored articles published in the Independent and New Statesman.
