Christina Norton

Christina is an architect and founding director of Soundings, a creative community and stakeholder engagement agency which supports placemaking, masterplanning and regeneration projects informed by the communities they serve. Christina has led multiple large scale, strategic urban and placemaking projects, mostly in the London area where the company is based, but also across the UK. She was a pioneer of narrative design and established one of the first participatory urban design practices. She led a housing masterplan project for 365 new homes on the edge of Basingstoke, developing a layout that responded to site specific conditions and a design code that reflected local identity developed and tested with the local community, landowners, officers and councillors.

Christina studied at the Bartlett and then at the Architectural Association where she was awarded the Edith Caldicot Scholarship. She has taught at London Metropolitan University and the Architectural Association, was a founding member of the avantgarde group NATO, and her work has been exhibited and published widely. As an Architect, academic and engagement expert with over 25 years of experience in this field, Christina has a breadth of knowledge and understanding to offer to the quality review panel. Christina brings her passion for building strong communities and placemaking to the role to help ensure that the very highest standards of engagement, consultation and local understanding shape successful and high-quality development.

She has recently directed the engagement on Uttlesford Design Code where she has gained a deep understanding of the district, its qualities and differences and special characteristics. Being on the ground has brought her close to the communities of Uttlesford, their needs and aspirations and the things that concern them.
