Joanna Burton

Jo is an experienced heritage professional with a personal and professional background rooted in the eastern region. With experience of providing advice at the plan-making stage on strategic sites through to detailed planning and listed building consents, her portfolio of projects ranges from householder applications through to greenfield sites, urban regeneration, new town developments and tall buildings in sensitive locations. With an academic background in history and interdisciplinary design, she seeks to take an evidence-based and collaborative approach to advocating for positive change to the historic environment.

She recently established a national heritage team at Barton Willmore where she was Heritage Director before founding her own heritage planning consultancy which she now leads. Her expertise is recognised through full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and has been rigorously tested through her expert witness roles.
