Heather Gurden


Heather joined Essex Police in 1978 as a police constable. In a career now spanning 42 years for Essex Police, she has been the leading edge in taking crime prevention and designing out crime forward, where she holds the position as the strategic Designing Out Crime Manager.

She has worked on a wide range of regeneration and sustainability projects across Essex and East Anglia promoting the benefits of crime prevention through environmental design. She has similarly combined this with her previous specialism in counter terrorism crime prevention.

She is a published author and co-wrote the Home Security the complete hand book with Calvin Beckford.

Until recently she was also a Co-director of AKA Training & Consultancy Ltd. Who specialised in delivering accredited training in Environmental Design, Counter terrorism & Crime Prevention.

Heather is the chair of the Eastern Region Designing out Crime Officers, where she represents the Eastern Region family of Forces at the Crime Prevention Design Group. This group helps shapes policy and guidance documents for Crime prevention initiatives limited with it key initiative Secured by Design, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Heather was presented with an award of being the outstanding Designing out Crime Officer of the year.
