Clare Murray


Clare is an architect with 15 years’ experience as a sustainability specialist. As Studio Director of Sustainability at Levitt Bernstein she oversees all projects from concept through to implementation and post-occupancy evaluation, with experience in a range of sectors and scales. Clare champions for buildings to be sustainably designed and has extensive experience encouraging an architectural perspective to new build and retrofit. She regularly advises on ultra-low energy, Passivhaus, retrofit, whole life carbon, and environmental design, shaping the client and design teams’ response to the climate emergency. She has a wealth of experience in visually engaging and user-friendly net zero guidance, policy, standards, and regulation and regularly contributes to industry guidance through LETI.

Clare grew up in Chelmsford and returned as a resident after university. With her day job in London, she enjoys contributing locally and bringing her skills home – through writing sustainability guidance, carrying out development reviews and energy and carbon planning policy evidence bases for Essex County Council.
