Where special materials or products with shorter life expectancies are used, or high-maintenance designs that will necessitate increased levels of care are implemented (such as enhanced lighting columns or lanterns, drainage attenuation, trees and landscaping), payment of appropriate commuted sums will be required by the Highway Authority to cover the additional costs of future maintenance.
